Okay so here I am back with another post, and trust it to be about the dreaded Instagram.
The app we all hate to love, but love to hate.
This post is not going to be a shocker, and believe me, this really is common sense and something you’re all very much aware of already. BUT hear me out. I have seen a MASSIVE improvement with my instagram over the last 6 months, and if you want to find out how and why, then read on folks.
And by the way, I am no expert at all!
If you’re reading this and have followed me and my account from the beginning you’ll know how far my account has come in the 2-3 years. I started off posting beauty posts/ flatlays mostly before I ventured onto fashion, and now if you follow me on instagram, you’ll see my whole grid is fashion, fashion, fashion, the occasional beauty and lifestyle. But yeah, my passion is for fashion (lol) and that’s why I post pictures of myself posing in front of pretty houses, in floral cafes, or by some popular London landmark to capture the eyes of my audience in various different high street outfits.
So Where Am I Now, and What’s Changed?
So at the end of April 2019 I hit the big 10k, which for some is nothing and a minuscule amount compared to their millions, but to others and to me, it’s a big achievement. And I’m not going to lie, I did feel very emotional when I got past that 10k mark because for myself and a lot of others, this is something we work very hard towards. If you’re reading this, and you haven’t got there and desparately want to, let me tell you, you can…and you WILL.
For me, I decided to change the way I took photos, and this ultimately allowed me to grow and exceed the 10,000 follower mark.
Of course, there are lots of other methods and ways you can grow your account, such as engaging with other accounts, using location tagging, tagging in your favourite brands and try to get regrammed, the use of hashtags and so on and so fourth, but I’m here to focus on one thing today, which I believe ultimately changed the game for me.
How To Increase Your Instagram Account By People Saving Your Posts?
So here’s the exciting part, and I’m going to get stuck into it.
For ages, I’ve been wondering how has my account suddenly grown, and why now are my posts being seen by so many more thousands of people? and yes some of this is down to hashtag use, but what happens when those pesky hashtags just don’t get picked up? Then you’re left feeling deflated and annoyed that your post isn’t reaching new audiences.
So have you ever wondered what ‘other’ stands for under the instagram insights?
The ‘other’ insight is is a bit of an odd one, because no-one really knows what instagram means by ‘other’. There are many posts out there that identify the possibilities of what it means, which include; your post being shared through direct messages (or being shared to other sites), people saving your post, your post showing up on the ‘following tab’ in your notifications and when your post has been tagged or mentioned somewhere else.
So the main thing that I have noticed is that when I get more saves on a post, my impressions and reach dramatically increases. Like soooo much. Meaning my account is being seen by thousands more people that it would do normally and therefore results in more likes and more follows for me!
Now, obviously as mentioned before, it’s not just the number of saves that increases the reach, there are other reasons why (see above) but I notice in particular when the post gets a lot of saves in the first few hours of me posting, the post does exceptionally better than others.
As you can see from the screenshots above, this is my most liked post so far (over 4700) and here are the analytics from the post. This post was saved 550 times (whaaaaaat) madness! And with that, the ‘other’ impressions reached over 33,000 people! From this photo’s reach I acquired 279 new followers.
In contrast to this….
On the other hand, this post only got 12 saves, and therefore the reach from ‘other’ was dramatically less. And therefore, I only gained 3 followers from this post.
So How Do I Get Saves?
So now’s the fun bit. How do you get people to save your posts?
It’s all in the image (kind of obvious huh) but I find, the more creative, passionate and different the image is, the more people save it. I guess people save for inspo, or they may save because they like the outfit/product.
You’ve got to ask yourself, what makes you save posts on instagram? When you scroll through Pinterest, what makes you pin something? Is it because you want to use it to recreate something similar in your home? Or maybe you like the way the person has styled the outfit and accessories.
There’s lots of reason why you might save something, and that’s what you can start to think about when posting on instagram. I have definitely started to do this and I have noticed a massive difference. I am starting to seek out better locations to shoot, outfits that stand out and so on.
What are your thoughts on this? I’d love to know!
